Although Adobe Reader allows you to jump to specific pages with the aid of bookmarks, it does not provide any functions for creating new bookmarks. If you need to bookmark certain pages within a large PDF file, JPdfBookmarks can help you. Besides reading PDF files, the software gives you the possibility of creating and organizing bookmarks for any page.

The software's files can be extracted directly from a 5.69 MB archive, which means that you don't have to go through an installation process. You should also know that JPdfBookmarks is freeware and that it works on Windows, Linux or any other operating system that supports Java.

The user interface looks and feels like other PDF readers, but it presents more options. You can load and read PDF files, zoom in and out or fit the page on the interface. Pages are displayed one at a time and you can switch between them with Next and Back buttons. A displayed page can be bookmarked instantly, just by clicking an option, located on a tool pane, on the left side of the interface.

Created bookmarks are displayed in a tree structure, next to the tool pane. You can use a different tool to create child bookmarks or you may click and drag existing bookmarks for the same result. Besides naming individual bookmarks, it is also possible to change their font styles and colors and to link them with web sites or other files.

When you are done, you can save the PDF document right away or save it with a different name, in a different location. You can also save the bookmarks as a separate file, in plain text format, and load them at a later date. Before saving the PDF file, you can select a few options, on a toolbar, if you want the bookmarks to appear when you open the file or if you want to perform other actions, like extracting links from the current page or changing the page offset for the selected bookmarks.

Pros

JPdfBookmarks works like other PDF readers, but it comes with bookmarking capabilities as well. The software allows you to link your bookmarks with specific web pages or other files. You can also make a few adjustments before saving the PDF file.

Cons

There are no serious issues to mention. If you are not content with Adobe Reader's limitations, you can use JPdfBookmarks as an excellent replacement.
